Using facebook On your mobile phones


Introduction

Whether you're planning an event, needing to get in touch, or just trying to pass some time, you may find yourself wanting to use Facebook when you're on the go. If your phone can send text messages, it can also access a few Facebook features. If you have a smartphone or other mobile device with a web browser, you can do even more.

Using Facebook Mobile

If your phone or device has a built-in web browser, you can always access Facebook by navigating tom.facebook.com, which is designed to be viewed on phones.
However, if your phone doesn't have a browser, or if using the browser is too slow, you can still access some Facebook features with your phone. All you need is a Facebook account and a phone with the capability to send and receive text messages.

Facebook Texts

You can use Facebook Texts to post status updates, add Friends, and more. You can also sign up to receivenotifications about Friend requests, Wall posts, and other activity that happens when you're away from the computer.
  • Facebook does not charge you for using Facebook Texts or the mobile site. However, your cell phone provider may charge you extra if you aren't already paying for a text message or data plan. If you're not sure which text and mobile internet services your cell phone plan includes, contact your mobile provider.

To Sign Up For Facebook Texts:

  1. Click the Account drop-down button, then select Account Settings.\
  2. On the My Account page, select the Mobile tab.
  3. Click Register for Facebook Text Messages.
  4. In the Activate Facebook Texts dialog box, use the drop-down lists to select your country and mobile carrier, then click Next.
  5. Using your phone, send a text message to the number 32665. Type the letter F in the message box, then pressSend.  (Note that this number is for Facebook users in the United States, Canada, and a few other countries. To find codes for other countries, go to Facebook's list of country codes.)
  6. Within a few minutes, you should receive a confirmation code on your phone.
  7. Return to Facebook and enter the confirmation code in the Activate Facebook Texts dialog box.
  8. By default, Facebook displays your phone number on your Profile. If you wish to keep this private, uncheckthe box that says Add this phone number to my profile.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Take a moment to review your Facebook Texts settings.:_
  1. Choose the types of text notifications you want to receive.
  2. To receive a Friend or Fan Page's status updates as text messages, add their name.
  3. To avoid receiving text notifications late at night, select the earliest and latest hours that you are willing to receive texts. You can also prevent Facebook from sending you texts when you're already using the site.
  4. If desired, set a limit on the number of texts you can receive from Facebook each day. This is helpful if your phone doesn't have an unlimited texting plan.
  5. Finally, choose whether or not you would like to receive a confirmation text each time you post something using Facebook Texts.


  • When you're satisfied with your settings, click Save Preferences. Your phone is now configured to send and receive Facebook Texts.


Using Facebook Texts

  • To update your status using Facebook Texts, simply send the text of your status update as a message to32665, or your Facebook country code.

Uploading Photos and Videos From Your Phone

 your phone has a camera and a way to send emails, you can use it to post photos and videos directly to your Facebook account. You can do this by sending them to your personal upload email address, a unique address that is linked to your account.
  • Whenever a photo or video is sent to this address, it will be automatically posted to your Facebook Wall and your Friends' News Feeds. For this reason, it's important to keep your personal upload address secret. If you share it with others, they will be able to upload content to your Facebook account without your permission.

To Upload a Photo or Video to Facebook:

  1. Navigate to the Facebook Mobile Page and locate your personal upload email address.
  2. On your phone, select the photo or video you want to post, and attach it to a new email. On most phones, you can do this by opening your photo gallery and selecting an image, then choosing to email it.
  3. Address the email to the Facebook personal upload email address you found in step 1
  4. If you wish to add a description to your photo or video, type it in the subject line of the email.
    1. Send the email.
    1. The photo or video will be posted on your Wall and added to your uploads. It will also appear on your Friends'News Feeds.
